Thoughts from Roianne: Wellbeing as Standard

Rest used to feel like theft. If I am honest, it still does sometimes. Recovery is a journey not a destination.

Not tiredness. Theft. Like I was stealing hours from a version of myself who would have been further along by now.

So I filled them. Every gap. A podcast in the shower. Emails in the back of a taxi. A to-do list that quietly became a character reference.

Productivity is the only addiction people congratulate you for.

Nobody pulls you aside. Nobody asks if you are alright. They ask how you do it all, and you smile, because the praise is the substance. That is the part that keeps you in it.

Recovery has been slower than I expected. Less dramatic, too.

It looks like finishing one thing and not immediately reaching for the next. It looks like a Sunday with nothing in it and no panic about the nothing. It looks like letting a good idea wait until Tuesday because Tuesday is when I have capacity, not because I have lost my edge.

I am still learning that my worth is not a rate of output.

Some days I believe it. Some days I do not. Both days count.

If you have built a whole identity on being the one who delivers, this is not a call to abandon it. It is a call to ask what it is costing, and whether you have ever let yourself answer honestly.

So let me ask you plainly. When was the last time you rested without earning it first?
